Senior Economic Advisor and Head of Strategic Policy and Inclusive Growth Unit at UNDP Nigeria.

Amarakoon Bandara joined UNDP Tanzania as an Senior Economic Advisor before moving to Zimbabwe (also serving Mauritius and Seychelles) in 2013. He is currently serving as the Senior Economic Advisor and Head of Strategic Policy and Inclusive Growth Unit at UNDP Nigeria. He has provided policy advisory support to governments in designing national development plans, implementation of strategies to achieve SDGs, impact assessments, integrated national financing, SDG Impact mapping and national human development reports.
Prior to joining UNDP, he has worked for the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific in Bangkok, Thailand. He is a former banker and a Central Banker having served the Central Bank of Sri Lanka in the Economic Research Department. He has to his credit several research articles presented in high-level international conferences and published in reputed refereed journals. He is also a regular independent reviewer for many journals. He holds a PhD in economics from Boston University, MA, USA
